At Olam Arts, we collaborate with Jewish organizations to offer enriching arts-based programs that connect young adults to Jewish culture, history, and tradition. Our programs blend the depth of Jewish knowledge with the transformative power of creativity, making Jewish identity come alive for participants. Through hands-on workshops and guided discussions, we empower organizations to foster engagement, build community, and inspire individual creativity.

Our Signature Workshops

A Journey Through Light and Art: Still Life with Shabbat Candles

This workshop interweaves the themes of art and food to explore the symbolism of Shabbat candles. Beginning with a discussion of memories where light has taken on meaningful roles in participants' lives, the session incorporates Jewish texts and personal storytelling.

Creative Project: Participants engage in creating still-life art using fine art markers, watercolors, or colored pencils, inspired by the Shabbat candle lighting ritual of starting Shabbat with light.

Uncovering the Past and Future: Narrative Challah Covers
Discover the history and story-telling power of a challah cover. Beginning with a discussion of the history and ethics behind the practice of covering the challah during the kiddush, participants will reflect on what story or history they want to depic on their challah covers to frame the of their shabbat meal. Together, we will consider the ways in which challah covers have brought meaning to meals in Jewish history and imagine new ways to connect modern values to ancient rituals.
Creative Project: Participants design and create a personalized challah cover using fabric markers and embroidery techniques.

Under the Vine: Kiddush Cups through Time                                                           The kiddush cup elevates the mundane to the sacred. Discover how the form of the kiddush cup frames the declaration of the sanctity of Shabbat. By examining kiddush cups from across the world, participants will think about how different communities communicate the values of holiness and distinction. Together, we will discuss what values a modern kiddush cup should communicate and how to integrate those ideas into a material object.
Creative Project: To start, everyone receives the outline of a grapevine arched across the page.  Underneath the arch, participants will transform the values from our conversation into visual representations of how they would like to set their Shabbat intentions.

All workshops encourage individual creativity and collective reflection, culminating in a gallery walk where completed artworks are shared and celebrated.
